More details on Measure C

I’ve obtained copies of the court filings, ballot statements, minutes, document submissions, etc. for the Malibu Valley Inn and Spa/Mary Hubbard controversy to date. I will speak only about what I have personally read, can reasonably infer from the documents and voted.

Calabasas resident and Las Virgenes Homeowner Federation (LVHF) representative Mary Hubbard is the only proponent of “no” on Calabasas ballot Measure C.

The Calabasas Park Homeowner Association Board voted and publicly stated that the Federation didn’t speak for it, as it agreed “in concept” with the MV Inn and Spa project. The Greater Mulwood HA Board to date hasn’t taken a position and instructed its representative to abstain from Federation voting.

Federation President Steve Hess, Hubbard, her lawyer and others submitted information and made statements supportive of Hubbard’s disputed ballot statement assertions. The court’s records and decision prove to a reasonable person that:

Most Federation members don’t send delegates or pay dues and never have;

Membership is, at best, 13 associations;

Hess didn’t even know how many votes each member could cast;

No quorum was present at any LVHF meeting from February through Sept. 13;

Federation by-laws were and have been routinely ignored;

Statements that the LVHF voted to oppose the Inn and Spa project and/or in favor of a “no” vote on advisory Measure C on the November ballot prior to Sept. 13 are false.

Mrs. Hubbard had to change her statements to clearly indicate they are her opinions, not facts, and remove LVHF’s “endorsement.”

Mr. Boudreau wanted only to be treated with truthfulness and fairness.

The Federation has proven itself to be an overbearing, undemocratic and overreaching paper tiger made up of a very few well-meaning but careless people. However, unless and until LVHF is reorganized to be reflective of the truth, its every action or utterance should be suspect. Karmen Brower Calabasas
