Watershed tour Sunday

The Malibu Creek Watershed Advisory Council will host “From the Headwaters to the LagoonThe Malibu Creek Watershed Tour” from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.mSun., Oct. 2 beginning and ending at Malibu City Council Chambers23815 Stuart Ranch Road, MalibuAmong the topics guest speakers and tour leaders will address are: What is a watershed? Why do we have a Watershed Council? How are we restoring damaged ecosystems? What are our options with Rindge Dam? Can a channelized (cement three-sided box with water running through it) stream be returned to a naturastate? How can we bring steelhead trout runs back up into Malibu Creek and its tributaries? How do we maintain and improve regionawater quality?

Speakers are from the Resource Conservation District of the Santa Monica Mountains, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Las Virgenes Municipal Water DistrictU.S. Army Corps of EngineersHeal the Bay, California Department of Parks and Recreation and other agencies.
