Mountains Restoration Trust says take a hike in October The following guided hikes will be offered in October by Mountains Restoration Trust and provide an opportunity to explore Cold Creek Canyon Preserve in Calabasas. At 9:30 a.m. Sat., Oct. 1, savor an autumn walkabout led by the Cold Creek Docents along a streamside trail through oak woodlands to a gently rolling chaparral basin below craggy sandstone peaks. Participants should meet at the Lower Stunt High Trailhead. Turn left on Stunt Road one mile to pullout on right. Hike duration is about three-anda-half hours. At 9 a.m. Sat., Oct. 8, study plants in fall dormancy as they await the rains. Learn how plants and animals survive long periods of drought. Reservations are required for this three-hour program by calling (818) 591-1701, ext. 203. At 9:30 a.m. Sun., Oct. 16, discover “Autumn’s Allure.” Enjoy the transformation of the seasons in an early fall hike in Cold Creek Canyon Preserve led by Cold Creek Docents. Bring water and a snack. Meet at the Preserve’s lower gate for this two-hour ramble. At 4:30 p.m. Sun., Oct. 16, enjoy the moonrise and sunset from Topanga Lookout with magnificent views of distant mountains. Bring supper, water and a “goodie” to share. The hike will last about three hours. Meet at the top of Stunt Road, at the intersection of Schueren, Saddle Peak and Stunt Roads, four miles from Mulholland Highway. |
