Water problem is Malibu’s Now let me see if I can understand this, the citizens of the Conejo are being asked to pony up $160 to $200 million or more to improve the Tapia plant so we don’t have algae growing in Malibu Creek, and Susan Cloke, Regional Water Quality Control Board chairperson, says residents would not have to pay for the new facility as it would be financed with a bond. Is this nuts or some sort of “new math” that I don’t understand? Who pays for the bond? We do. I have hiked Sycamore Canyon and Upper Chesebro Canyon many times this year. These creeks both have a serious case of algae. Obviously the algae is a naturally occurring phenomena, and anything but harmful, except to those with an agenda. If those surfers in Malibu are truly concerned about water quality, they should look to the total lack of sewage treatment facilities throughout Malibu. Let Malibu clean up their mess. George R.
