Running for city council

It is with equal amounts of excitement and humility that I have decided to run for the Agoura Hills City Council.

My wife, children and I came to Agoura Hills for the same reason many of our city’s residents did—quality schools, a beautiful environment and a small-town feel.

I am running for city council because I believe that our city can and must do more to reach its full potential. True, we live in a great city. But we can and must do a better job of planning for our present and for our future. Though we don’t face the problems that other larger cities do, we do face challenges—traffic and budget priorities to name two—that must be addressed more proactively and openly by our city’s elected leaders.

I’m confident that my background as someone who is active in our community will help me focus on the priorities that our city’s residents care about. Equally important, as chief administrative officer for UCLA’s Department of Economics, I manage a budget in excess of $12 million annually, supervise more than 50 people and help the department plan for the future—skills that will help me serve all of Agoura Hills as a member of the city council. The totality of these personal, community and professional experiences makes me ideally suited to provide the stewardship and long-range planning skills that our city deserves and needs.

In the coming weeks and months, I will travel our city, listening first and, after hearing what residents and community members have to say, letting them know of my vision for the future and my plan of action to ensure that our vision gets implemented.

Again, I am excited and humbled at the opportunity to run for Agoura Hills City Council. I look forward to earning your support for my candidacy. Todd August Agoura Hills
