Need outsiders I was initially surprised by The Acorn editorial of July 21, “Winds of change come to Agoura Hills,” because it acknowledged the candidacy of two planning commissioners yet at the same time called for “an outsider, not someone tied to the current administration.” At the time, I didn’t necessarily see planning commissioners as part of the administration. Now, having witnessed the two planning commissioners, Koehler and Schwarz, and the one incumbent running for reelection all endorse each other, I’m beginning to catch on. Not only are they all tied to the same administration but they are committed to keeping it that way. While the last generation of leadership in Agoura Hills has brought us a wonderful city with plenty of open space, they appear to be at a loss of what to do next. They do not seem to have a plan for sustainable economic development, they don’t have a vision of how to protect our good schools and they don’t appear to have contingencies for declining state funding. The Acorn was right. Playing musical chairs through the planning commission will just not cut it any more. It’s time for a change. Ian H. Taras Agoura Hills |
