Survey asks residents about city’s future

Thanks to a new survey, Westlake Village residents will have the chance to see into the future.

The city-funded 2015 Survey, which began last week, will give Westlake Village city officials the opportunity to anonymously poll residents and find out what issues matter the most to them.

The information gathered from the survey will help the city council establish a 10-year plan for Westlake and prepare for the community’s future needs.

According to Audrey Brown, assistant city manager, the survey addresses such topics as parks and recreation, city traffic, housing, schools and public transportation.

True North Research, the California-based consulting company handling the survey, has already begun conducting some polls over the phone, Brown said.

On Sept. 26, the city will send out a postcard to every household in Westlake Village. The postcard will explain how residents can either request a hard copy of the survey from city hall or access the survey via the Internet.

Last year, a 12-member committee was formed to determine which topics the survey would address. Councilmembers Robert Slavin and Phillipa Klessig worked with 10 community members to create the survey. The committee met monthly to develop the survey.

The survey cost about $42,000, city officials said.

October 17 is the deadline for residents to participate in the survey, and the survey’s results will be available for public review by early next year.
