EXERCISE IN ELEGANCE—The new facility under construction at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks promises to be spacious and elegant, as shown in this artist’s rendering. The clubhouse, tennis courts and Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course will open early in 2006. Construction is underway for a second Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course at Sherwood Country Club, the private golf, tennis and recreational club in Thousand Oaks.

The 18-hole, 2,021-yard par3 course is part of Sherwood’s newly created Sherwood Lake Club, which currently offers a 14,000-square-foot clubhouse with a board room, a bar and grill, a pro shop, a fully-equipped fitness center, men’s and women’s locker rooms with saunas, plus a pool and an outdoor spa.

“With three sets of tees, this course will appeal to all family members as well as golfers of different playing levels,” said Alexandra Cuilty, Sherwood general manager.

The course is nestled within Sherwood’s most scenic canyons and enhanced by dramatic views of rustic hillsides, ancient oaks, unique rock formations and a variety of picturesque elevation changes.

Design highlights include tiered greens plus an island tee and green.

A grand opening is anticipated for early 2006.

The overall course design at Sherwood is a collection of par-3 holes inspired by Nicklaus’ signature designs throughout the country, including Pasadera Country Club in Monterey, Calif., The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Jupiter, Fla., and the Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio.

“Members will enjoy the first ‘Bear’s Best’ par-3 golf course in the country at Sherwood Lake Club,” Nicklaus said.

Sherwood’s 7,025-yard par-72 championship course, which Nicklaus created in 1989, is home to the Greg Norman and Tiger Woods tournaments.
