Chemical fire strikes Calabasas

Two 55-gallon barrels containing titanium shavings caught on fire early Monday morning at a machine shop at 27030 Malibu Hills Road in Calabasas. The name of the machine shop wasn’t available.

Six people were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department extinguished the fire within a few minutes.

Employees were evacuated so the building could be ventilated, fire officials said.

The Fire Department’s Hazardous Materials team was called in to identify the product, which was later cleaned up by a chemical cleaning company.
