On Mon., Aug. 1, Prudential California Realty (PCR) held an awards banquet for its 20th annual golf tournament at Sunset Hills Country Club. The awards ceremony was not only for the golfers, but also to honor the benefactors of the proceeds from the tournament

Prudential California Realty’s Golf Classic raises money for high school scholarships. This May and June, PCR granted eight scholarships to local graduating seniors.

The awards went to: Julia Fong, Oak Park High School; Alidad Damooei, Thousand Oaks High School; Stephanie Green, Agoura High School; Catherine Ricafort, Westlake High School; Gary Weeks, Newbury Park High School; Katie Jacobs, Moorpark High School; Lucitia Van Der Kraan, Oxnard High School; and Phuong Mai, Camarillo High School.

“The scholarship is entitled the ‘Spirit of the Community Award,’” said Bob Majorino, PCR’s owner/broker. “Although the awards were not based on GPA scores, our participants placed very high. We were looking for people who make a difference, sharing attitudes and characteristics we value in our associates and employees. We did require a minimum 3.0 GPA, but we primarily asked for a demonstration of strong leadership qualities, and significant influence either within their school or their community.”

A $2,500 check was given to each of the recipients, payable in their first year of college. All eight of the award winners will be attending 4year universities in the fall.

PCR’s goal for 2006 is to increase the awards to ten scholarships. The monies taken in from this year’s tournament will determine that goal.
