The bear facts

A year ago this month my friends Colleen and Robert adopted “Bear Bear” from the Agoura Animal Shelter.

He was a “Pet of the Week” dog, an old dog, and little did he know that that day would be his lucky day.

You see, my friends did what no one else would do for Bear Bear, they took him home, loved him and promised him they would never take him back. They took him to the vet, gave him a bath, gave him his own food bowl, his own blanket and his own toys. They gave him a new life and a real home.

It wasn’t easy at first since they have another dog, Brandy, who they love dearly, so they knew some adjustment time would be needed for everyone.

They didn’t give up on Bear Bear like so many others have.

I’ve never know anyone who adopted a “Pet of the Week,” until Colleen and Robert opened their checkbook that day for an old terrier mutt with an unknown history.

Bear Bear is a dog again, barking, eating and the other day actually caught a rat!

My friends did a good thing that day, they put their fears aside and took a chance. How many of us do that, pick a day and save an animal, or someone. They sure saved Bear Bear and somehow, I think just maybe, he saved them. Lisa Ames Oak Park
