Viewpoint’s headmaster attends seminar at Columbia University

Dr. Robert Dworkoski, headmaster of Viewpoint School in Calabasas, was one of 34 national educators chosen to participate in a weeklong seminar, “America Between the Wars,” at Columbia University in July.

Sponsored by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History in New York City, the seminar gathers outstanding educators from independent and public schools nationwide to learn and study with internationally renowned scholars.

Alan Brinkley, the Alan Nevins professor of history and provost of Columbia University, was the lead instructor for this seminar, which explored the political, economic, social and cultural changes in America between 1919 and 1941.

“As head of an outstanding college prep school, I believe that I, too, should continue to refine and to enhance my academic credentials,” said Dworkoski. “By the end of the seminar, the other participants and I compiled for our students more than 60 academic exercises, which will ask them to analyze historical documents and draw conclusions. This is the essential role of the professional historian.”
