Slow down, save a deer

I want to let everyone who drives on Westlake Boulevard heading towards Avenida De Los Arboles to slow down.

I was driving home at around 6 p.m., slowing down to a safe downhill speed, when a fully grown deer crossed the road, probably going to the creek for water. I think there is even a sign that says “Watch for Deer.” If I had not slowed my speed I might have had a different experience that day.

I take a risk each day as I drive the eight miles to work from my home. I like to enjoy the beautiful mountains, oaks and occasional deer along the way, while driving at the designated speed. But I’ve had to stop for people on cell phones driving through stop signs or turning left in front of me.

Remember, you could encounter an animal, a person or a car as you race along on the surface streets without any regard for safety.
