Not friendly toward business I would like to inform Ms. Regan (The Acorn, July 14) and other citizens of Agoura Hills of some history that they might not be aware of. I have been a business owner in the city of Agoura Hills for over 30 years. My business has contributed millions of dollars of tax revenue to the city. Ms. Regan mentions a vendetta in her letter between the Chamber and the city. The only vendetta has been the one the city has had toward our business community for the past 30 years. Just take a look around and compare what amenities our city has verses our neighboring cities. Agoura Hills residents and business owners are forced to go through unnecessary hurdles to remodel their homes or start a new business that no other city asks of their citizens. It is our business community that has contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to the success of our school system, not the city. The Chamber page that appears in The Acorn is only an effort to educate the residents of our community about what is really going on in our city. It is hard to understand where the city stands, with all of the spin that comes out of it. An example of the spin machine is how our city tries to justify not providing additional funds for the school district. The council just voted not to allocate even $100,000 as a future budget item to help fund the Las Virgenes School District, while the city of Calabasas has provided over $1.5 million to the district. The city of Agoura Hills has people thinking that they have provided money, but that money is only mandated by the state government. It’s a question of priorities.
