The Las Virgenes Unified School District Board of Education announced last week that it is seeking members for a communitybased Technology Support Committee.

The board said it hopes to recruit between five to seven community members who will join district staff in determining the district’s technology needs and implementing new programs.

The committee will be working with a $554,000 budget, said Karen Kimmel, the district’s director of finance.

The purpose of the committee is to ensure that the school district’s technology priorities are undertaken in proper order, on budget, and on time.

Committee members will report to the board at least twice a year.

Among other duties, the committee will explore funding options and compare software, hardware and construction costs. It will also set the standards for training and advise on staffing needs.

Qualifications for potential members include development and technology experience in networking, security or web design, plus a general understanding of school technology issues and budget practices.

Citizen committee members will serve two- or three-year terms and may be reappointed at the discretion of the school board.

The committee application will be posted on the website www.lvusd.K12.ca.us/. Details will be announced in school bulletins and through a phone message system.

The application deadline is Sept. 2 and the selection process will be conducted Sept. 5 through 26.

Committee appointments will be announced on Sept. 27.
