Local contractors award $10,000 in scholarships

Ventura County students were awarded cash prizes toward their construction careers at the third annual Joint Scholarship Awards Dinner held by Ventura County Contractors Association and National Association of Women in Construction on May 24 at the Wedgewood Banquet Center, Ventura.

About 100 people, including construction professionals and parents, attended the dinner event to show their support for the students.

Among the winners of the Ray Prueter Scholarship was Steve Faltemier of Westlake High School, who received $750.

The group’s Construction Education Fund was created five years ago in honor of Ray Prueter for his long-time service to the association.

The fund is financed by contributions from its 300 members and is dedicated to aiding local students to continue their education toward careers in the construction industry.
