Dance school opens new studio

A Step in Time School of Dance announced the opening of its new location next to La Paz restaurant at 4505 Las Virgenes Road, Calabasas. The new facility offers larger studios, a study room for students and space for more classes.

The school offers classes in ballet, pointe, jazz, tap, hip hop, musical theatre, turns and jumps, acrobatics, choreography, Mommy and Me, pilates, yoga, preschool enrichment classes and summer dance camps for preschoolers, children and teens.

Earlier this year, the school’s competition team won the showmanship award and a gold placement at On Stage NY and will compete this month at the Nationals of On Stage in New York City.

Also this summer, students performed on an Alaskan cruise and will attend a summer intensive workshop in North Carolina.

A Step in Time has three performing groups and an awardwinning competition team. Students have performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Sydney 2000 Olympics, Sydney Wonderland, Fox Studios Sydney, Magic Mountain, the L.A. Clippers pre-game, Disneyland, cruise lines, local festivals and retirement centers.

In November, students will perform at the Statue of Liberty as part of a performance and educational trip.

The school is celebrating its 17th year of serving the community. Dawn Smith-Theodore is the school’s director.
