Theater group working toward a goal

After reading the Acorn’s front page article on June 9 stating that the Calabasas City Council is going to put a parking lot on the area that was promised to Spotlight the Arts Foundation for a future small community theatre, I feel compelled to share my feelings.

My husband and I have been residents in Calabasas for 37 years. Not only do we travel out of our area to attend sporting events, but for over 30 years we have been part of a theatre group that travels far out of the area to attend good, family-friendly small theatre. The eight couples in our group would love to attend live theatre in our community.

In the past few months I have attended several meetings with Spotlight the Arts and recognize the dedicated co-chairpersons, Debbie Gambardella and Toby Keeler and the other members of the board of directors. They are making every effort to plan fund-raising events for our Calabasas community theater.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we had a small performing arts theatre in our beauty community of Calabasas to help serve families in the west San Fernando Valley?

My husband says he is not enjoying the long drives to Pasadena, Glendale, Westwood or Hollywood. Please don’t make a paved parking lot on “promised land” for Spotlight the Arts Foundation. Doris Kenney Calabasas
