Near the boiling point We’re frustrated and we’re not going to take it anymorebut we have to. The worst could be yet to come. To begin with, we weren’t surprised to hear that the city of Calabasas is struggling again with the parking in Old TownNot enough spaces for employees and not enough spaces for visitors—it’s a wonder that the businesses there aren’t suffering more. Despite the congestion, Old Town remains a favorite attraction for residents and out-of-towners alike, but how long can the frustration level continue to rise? On a busy Farmer’s Market Saturday, the parking spaces are practically non-existent. We just hope the new Civic Center at the Commons will be adequately parked. The Rick Caruso shopping centers are notorious for packing ‘em in there. There are still some vacant lots in Old Town and it would be wise to explore using all of them to alleviate the parking overflow. Speaking of fed up, by now you’ve experienced the delays and congestion due to the Kanan Road/101 Freeway interchange construction in Agoura Hills. Now the bad news: The really big work hasn’t even begun, and will take years. At least Canwood Street has a new look and is not the pitted, rut of a road that it used to be. Unfortunately, the whole area from Canwood to Agoura Road is going to get worse before it gets better. Drivers will have to be extremely patient. Luckily, we have a two month reprieve from the parking and traffic issues while school is out. By September, howeverit’ll be back to the old grind again. The proposed Heschel School near Old Agoura and the Lowe’s home improvement store in Westlake Village won’t help matters, but we’re confident our local planners can help mitigate these and other traffic problems. It’s frustrating that the cars and SUVs just keeping comingBut remember, there once was a time before your home was built and before your car was on the street. It’s okay to long for the good old days, but it’s also important to be realistic and to know that the good things in life always come with a price. Editorials RSS feed |
