MAC celebrates birthday

Founded in 1975, the Oak Park Municipal Advisory Council (MAC) celebrated its 30th anniversary during last week’s meeting. Festivities included cake, balloons and special certificates of recognition from the Ventura County Board of Supervisors and California Assemblymember Fran Pavley.

Because Oak Park is an unincorporated area within Ventura County, an advisory council, not a city council, represents the local residents.

The MAC is made up of five elected Oak Park residents who serve four-year terms. They are required to meet 12 times per year. The advisory board does not have its own budget.

The MAC acts as a liaison between the residents of Oak Park and the Ventura County Supervisor from District 2. The advisory council listens to problems, concerns and other municipal issues affecting Oak Park residents and then makes appropriate recommendations to the county supervisor for possible solutions.

MAC members include Todd Haines, Deena Parry, Ron Stark, Bonnie Biddison and Jay Kapitz.

The advisory council meets on the fourth Tuesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. in room G-9 at Oak Park High School.
