Teens can learn fire training

The Ventura County Fire Department Training Division announced two sessions of the 2005 Junior Fire Academy for teens age 13 to 16: Mondays through Fridays, July 18 to 22 and Aug. 8 to 12.

The classes will meet at Ventura County Fire Services’ Regional Training Center at Camarillo Airport, 102 Durley Ave., Camarillo.

The cost is $25 per student, per session. Attendance is limited to 25 students per session.

Attendees will learn about career opportunities in the fire service and the preparation necessary to become a successful candidate for a position within the fire service.

The sessions will offer academic learning and hands-on experience in a safe, fun-filled environment. Topics to be covered include fire department organization, fire equipment, fire station routine and tour, structure fire and bush fire suppression, air operations, emergency medical operations, dispatch services and fire prevention.
