Rick Naranjo, the assistant
principal at Calabasas High School
for the past five years, will take a
similar position at Agoura High
School in the fall.
According to school officials,
Naranjo will serve as the school’s
assistant principal in charge of athletics. He is currently working as
the summer school principal at
Agoura High, a position that
Naranjo has held for the past three
years at Calabasas High School.
Naranjo said he will be in
charge of discipline, attendance,
security and athletics at Agoura
High.
“My biggest challenge will be
getting to know everyone at
Agoura High School,” Naranjo
said. “I look forward to working
with Larry Misel, (the principal of
Agoura High).”
Naranjo, 61, launched his career in a private school, teaching
science and working as the assistant football coach at Crespi High
School in Encino. After five years,
Naranjo headed to Mammoth
Lakes in California’s Sierra Nevada mountains, where he accepted a job at Mammoth High
School as their first head football
coach. Soon after, he took charge
of the basketball team and led the
girl’s volleyball team to a 1990
CIF title.
For five years Naranjo served
as the assistant principal of
Calabasas High School. He taught
Spanish and worked as the head
varsity volleyball coach and assistant football coach.
Naranjo lives in Westlake Village and said he likes the idea of
living closer to his job.
Naranjo will kick off the 2005/
2006 school year at a new school,
and in a new role as grandfather.
Two of his children are having
children of their own in August and
September.
