Lowe’s not the answer

Is it April Fools Day again? Your editorial of June 23 as to the merits for the Lowe’s Home Improvement project in Westlake Village makes as little sense.

You agree that Lowe’s will be bad for traffic and an “eyesore.” Then you arrive at the conclusion that it will “stimulate” sales tax revenue for the city which you conclude that “deep-pocketed” Westlake Village does not need. Finally, you wrap up by stating, “It will be money in the bank for Westlake Village.”

Yes, in theory, there are all sorts of ways in which we could raise money for the city, but destroying the reasons why we live here is not a valid reason for accepting the project. Most of us live here because we enjoy the quality of life offered by our community and we pay to enjoy that privilege.

Could we buy cheaper homes located in areas with lots of traffic and eyesores neighboring our homes? Sure, but wouldn’t that be defeating the purpose of living in Westlake Village? Arnold Lioy Westlake Village
