Math wizards break record
Eleven Agoura High School Math Honor Society students broke a school record recently in the annual American High School Math Examination. The test is given to the most talented math students in the United States and Canada.
Agoura High Math Honors SocietyScoring honors in this year’s event were Justin Tsneg, Sherman Ng, Nikhil Kumar, Mihir Bawal, Saranya Regunathta, Andy Mooris, Pasha Nahass, Jason Carmi, Brett Haas, Eric Klein and Daniel Teitlebaum. All 11 students earned honors, which was a school record.
The students participated in math competitions throughout the school year with the support of Craig Hochhaus, chair of the math department.
The school had 110 students who were math tutors this year.
They worked in math classes during the day helping students with their homework, preparing tests and answering questions. They worked before school and during lunch tutoring over 570 different students, said Larry Misel, Agoura High School principal.
David Chu received the Principal’s Award for Outstanding Math Tutor at AHS and Eric Klein earned the title of top Senior Math Tutor.
Misel sponsored a Math Olympics competition at the school.
Awards were presented to the following students:
•Calculus: David Chu, first place; Jason Carmi, second place and Jeff Jonokuchi, third place.
•Trigonometry: Jeff Su, first place; Justin Tseng, second place and Sherman Ng, third place.
•Algebra II: Mihir Bawal, first place; Rohit Ghosh, second place and Mihir Bikchandani, third place.
•Geometry: Iris Jiang, first place; Dan Klein, second place and Pasha Nahass, third place.
