‘Trouble’ in Agoura Hills

Agoura Hills is in trouble. A recent city council meeting spoke about the budget and the dismal state of affairs. Wish lists and projected expenditures, yet no positive plans, projects or prophecies to enlighten the residents.

The current city council has no plan for economic success. It lacks any leadership, vision and direction. It lacks funds to maintain basic needed services to the residents.

Its sister cities to the east and west flourish with successful economic development, progressive programs, on-going maintenance and professional decorum throughout their borders and within their respective government structure.

Unfortunately, that cannot be said about Agoura Hills.

Perhaps the last 20 years of administrative chaos has finally caught up. City managers come and go, city employees enter and exit, yet the mindset of “don’t fix it cause it ain’t broken” continues to serenade in Agoura Hills.

Recently, Councilman Jeff Reinhardt stated that he wants to explore the possibility of having our own law enforcement department.

Does he have any clue what this might cost? How does he figure to fund this dream?

Without a strong economic base of support from the business community, the future of wish lists being fulfilled are a simply a dream that will never come true. Business will come to Agoura Hills if the city wants it; however, it has no agenda to allow this to happen.

The city wants to establish a tourism bureau. I’ll be sure to tell others about the day workers populating Agoura Road and the lovely unmitigated roads and bridges in the city.

Recently, I called city hall to discuss the unusual telephone poles that stick out of the street just west of Kanan Road on Canwood Street.

Certainly a visual blight, let alone a potential accident waiting to happen with liability that would bankrupt city hall. The well-intended employee said “I just got here and Agoura Hills has a lot of problems.” Indeed! Welcome to Utopia!
