Las Virgenes Federation takes a stand I am writing to clarify the Las Virgenes Homeowners Federation position on several development projects presently proposed in our area. These projects are the Heschel School in Old Agoura, the Triangle Ranch at the intersection of Kanan and Cornell Roads and the Malibu Valley Inn which, while located in Los Angeles County, is being considered for annexation by the city of Calabasas. Eachproject has its own unique considerations and impacts but there is one common element: they all are in the Los Angeles County Santa Monica Mountains area and, as such, are subject to the policies and conditions set forth in the Santa Monica Mountains North Area Plan. The Las Virgenes Homeowners Federation and its delegates joined with Los Angeles County, local governments, districts, federal and state agencies, landowners and homeowners to help create the North Area Plan. This regional planning document has served as the “road map” for development in the unincorporated area of the north Santa Monica Mountains since it was adopted over five years ago by the county’s board of supervisors. Simply put, the Federation supports the equitable and consistent application of the North Area Plan to evaluate all development applications within the Santa Monica Mountains unincorporated area and we request and encourage local governments or agencies that are considering a project to test it for compliance with the North Area Plan. I know I speak for many of the Federation delegates when I say that I will personally stand up and support any application within the north Santa Monica Mountains area that complies with the North Area Plan. Anyone who has any questions about the Federation’s position on any project may call me at home any time at (818) 865-1746. John Low Las Virgenes Homeowners Federation |
