National Park Service activities highlighted More than 150 summer programs listed in new booklet

The National Park Service has announced that its summer edition of its free quarterly events brochure, “Outdoors in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area,” is currently available. It may be obtained by calling (805) 370-2301 or by writing to: Outdoors, Santa Monica Mountains NRA, 401 W.

The brochure highlights programs offered to the public during July, August and September.

Among the special activities at park sites in the Agoura area are “Silents Under the Stars,” silent movies shown in the evening at Paramount Ranch; and the “Mountain Music Series,” free music concerts in an outdoor shaded amphitheater at Peter Strauss Ranch. Lectures, walks, hikes and talks on the local flora and fauna and the area’s history are also on tap, led by rangers or docents.

More than 150 programs are listed. In addition to presentations by national and state parks, more than 30 nonprofit organizations are represented, also offering a wide array of activities from bird watching to beach strolls to roasting marshmallows after a moonlight hike.
