Bikel to perform at Chabad gala

Chabad of the Conejo will host its annual gala banquet at 5:30 p.m. Wed., June 15 at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, preceding a concert by famed entertainer Theodore Bikel. Chabad will pay tribute to Martin and Joy Teitelbaum, the gala’s honorees.

Theodore BikelTheodore Bikel“This is a couple deeply concerned with the material and spiritual welfare of others,” said Rabbi Moshe Bryski, executive director of Chabad. “They are true community leaders who have given of their time, energy and benevolence to ensure a more vibrant and educated Jewish community for all of us. Their endless acts of kindness have not gone unnoticed.” A “Memorial Tribute” will be presented to the Raoof family in tribute to Miriam (Mahvash) Raoof, who died last October after a long battle with illness.

“Miriam left her family and friends with a legacy of love, compassion and sacrifice for others,” said Rabbi Shlomo Bistritzky.

Other awards being presented include the “Chesed Award” to Sholom and Esther Laine and the “Aishet Chayil Awards” to Bea Greenberg and Terry Rubin.

Bikel made his concert debut at the Carnegie Recital Hall in 1956 and has performed in countless folk music concerts throughout the U. S., Canada and Europe.
