Anti-war sentiment is building My thanks to Bob Keegan for responding to my letter regarding the war in Iraq. Apparently, however, Bob has been spending too much time reading the letters to the editor and not enough time reading the hard news. Here’s a newsflash for you, Bob: President Bush has admitted that Saddam Hussein did not have weapons of mass destruction and that Iraq did not have plans to attack the United States as he originally stated as his rationale for the war. He has, of course, since come up with other "good" reasons for the war, but they hardly put Saddam on the same level as Adolf Hitler as a danger to American civilization. The issue here is the truth and being straight with the American public. The president and his advisors had their reasons for going to war, unfortunately we can only surmise what they were. The president’s supporters have one view and his detractors quite another. Fifteen hundred-plus (and counting) Americans have paid for this project with their lives. They deserve to know what this was really about. Phillip Gold Westlake Village |
