The Building Industry Association-Southern California Women’s Council’s annual "Spring Basket Luncheon" held March 23 at the Westlake Village Inn, Westlake Village, surpassed fundraisers of recent years in the number of items donated, attendance and revenue generated.
The event supports battered women and children’s shelters in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties.
More than 100 guests donated more than 65 baskets filled with baby care items, blankets, clothes and school supplies for the families at the shelters. The baskets varied from straw baskets to strollers, infant car seats, toy wagons and a handmade dollhouse.
Hall & Foreman of Woodland Hills won Best Basket for a corporate donation and Kathleen Perkinson of Miller Family Companies won Best Basket for an individual donation.
The Women’s Council raised more than $1,500 from the luncheon, a raffle and a silent auction. The proceeds will fund scholarship and philanthropic endeavors.
In attendance at the luncheon were Haven Hills, Inc., With Love, Grandma, Inc., Restore and The Coalition to End Family Violence, who received the donated baskets to distribute to their clients.
The Women’s Council will host the Architectural Drafting Competition Awards Dinner on Wed., May 18 at The Odyssey, Granada Hills. Scholarships will be awarded to students who win first, second and third place in a variety of categories.
