She’s renting ‘Constantine’ despite review She’s renting ‘Constantine’ despite review Some brief comments regarding Dave Workman’s review of the movie, "Constantine." After reading a begrudging, good review of that movie in the Daily News, I decided I will definitely rent that DVD. I don’t go to the movies anymore, too expensive. I might tell Workman that from what he describes, the movie doesn’t sound like it contains any Christian doctrines in the first place. Perhaps he and others are confused that the movie apparently consists of highly fictionalized fables about what are actually real—God, Satan, heaven, hell, angels, demons and eternal perdition. Seeing as how Hollywood has been distorting Christian doctrines for quite a while now with such movies as "The Omen" (liked it), that Robert Duval/Robert DeNiro Catholic church smear (forgot the title, not Catholic, hated it anyway), and "The Last Temptation of Christ" (didn’t see it, only read about it), it appears this movie merely contains the usual distorted, hostile and derogatory Western cultural attitudes toward God, but includes swell, contemporary state-of-the-art special effects I always get a hoot out of. And it’s about real things, too. While I’m sure Workman rightly pointed out this movie does present us with strong reinforcements of prevailing negative attitudes toward God, there seems to be nothing theologically new under the sun in it. So thank you Workman for your fine insights and I’ll definitely be renting the DVD. Kathryn Durfee Agoura |
