Democratic Club hosts activities

Following are some of the upcoming activities planned by the Democratic Club of Conejo Valley.

Peace vigils will occur through the country and in Los Angeles on Sat., March 19, two years to the date of the start of the war in Iraq.

Club members will join others from 5 to 7 p.m. at the corner of Lynn Road and Hillcrest Drive. Attendees are asked to bring their own candle. For further information, call (805) 675-8785.

At 11:30 a.m. Thurs., March 31 at the Alamo Restaurant, 2311 Borchard Road, Newbury Park, members of the club will host a luncheon to honor labor organizer Cesar Chavez, also noted as being a spokesman for the poor, especially his fellow Mexican-American farm workers.

The event will feature a speaker and information on how the public may show support for farm workers.

For reservations or further information, call the foregoing number or contact Virginia Rogalsky at (805) 491-0304.

The club is inviting students and artists age 21 and younger to submit an idea for a logo for the organization. They are seeking an "original work, eye-catching, with patriotic colors and depicting what best represents modern Democratic values," according to a club spokeswoman.

The logo will be used on stationery, bumper stickers and the club’s website.
