Cancer Society fundraiser at Agoura High

"Around the World in 24 Hours" is the theme for Agoura’s third Relay for Life, a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society’s support, education and research services.

The 24-hour community-based fundraiser will begin 10 a.m. Sat., May 21 and end at 10 a.m. Sun., May 22, at Agoura High school. An informational Team Meeting will be in room A1 tonight at 7 p.m., Thurs., March 17, at the school.

Relay for Life is a family oriented team event where participants can walk or run relay-style around the track and take part in fun activities off the track.

Teams can include coworkers, club members, family and friends who have gathered donations prior to the event. Last year’s event had over 30 teams and grossed about $41,000.

"This year we are looking for an even bigger and better relay with exceeding the goal of $50,000," said Joe Borci, event chairman.

This public is invited to attend the luminaria ceremony after sundown. To honor the community’s cancer survivors and commemorate those lost to the disease, survivors will circle the track rimmed with glowing luminaries while the names of survivors and those passed away are read aloud.

Luminaries can be purchased for $7 by calling (805) 497-0114.

For information, call (805-527-8532) or visit online at www.acsevents.org/relay/ca/agoura. Participants can form or join a team at this site and track its progress.
