Heschel West honors its own

On Jan. 30 more than 300 people gathered to honor Dr. Brian and Suzanne Greenberg of Westlake Village, and Jeri and Ira Cohen of Agoura Hills at a gala fundraiser for the Heschel West Day School of Agoura Hills. The dinner raised more than $125,000.
The event, which included dinner and dance, was at Valley Beth Shalom in Encino.
Dr. Brian Greenberg, a pediatrician and allergy specialist in Agoura Hills, was honored along with his wife, Suzanne, for his three years of distinguished leadership as president of the board of directors at Heschel West. Suzanne Greenberg has held numerous positions on various committees as well as the board of directors, including her current service as board secretary.
Jeri Cohen and her husband Ira were honored for her five years of exemplary service as president of the Parent Organization and his many contributions to Heschel West.
Both couples were lauded for their contributions in making Heschel West Day School an outstanding academic and community organization.
Those in attendance at the gala reflected the depth and breadth of the Heschel West community’s outreach. Joining parents, grandparents and friends of the school were civic leaders: Los Angeles County Supervisor, Zev Yaroslavsky; Barry Groveman, Mayor of Calabasas; and Alex Soteras, former President of the Agoura/ Oak Park/ Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce.
"We are all proud of the accomplishments of our school, students and families. This year’s theme, ‘Building a Community That Can Change the World, reflects the essence of the philosophy we try to instill in our children every day." Brian Greenberg said.
"We are part of a small community that contributes to the greater good of the larger community. Tonight is a celebration of that spirit."
Heschel West is a community Jewish Day School located in Agoura since 1994. One hundred and eighty-eight children are currently enrolled from transitional kindergarten through fifth grade.
The Heschel West Middle School will open in September.
