Viewpoint School finalist for Bravo Award Viewpoint School in Calabasas is one of four schools selected as finalists for the 23rd annual Bravo Award. The award, established by the Music Center of Los Angeles County’s Education Division in 1982, recognizes outstanding arts educators. In commenting on the private K-12 school’s selection, headmaster Robert Dworkoski said, "The arts program comprises the departments of visual, music, theater arts and film and video, as well as the dance program within theater arts. "Together, these programs encourage creative thinking, self-expression, originality, emotional-release, questioning, problem-solving, and a richer appreciation of the world, past and present." Finalists will be honored and winners announced at a Tues., March 1 dinner at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel, hosted by producer/director Garry Marshall. The event gives each finalist a chance to briefly share with the gala guests their achievements, motivation, and teaching highlights. Three Bravo Awards are presented: one to a school, one to an arts teacher and one to a general classroom teacher. Robinsons-May provided the cash award of $10,000 for the winning school; this year there were 28 nominated schools. All nominees, finalists and winners receive prizes including performance tickets and educational materials. Bravo nominations are made by principals, faculty committees, superintendents or parents. Bravo nominees must complete a rigorous application process to be considered official nominees. For information about the Bravo Awards or the gala, call (213) 972-3386. |
