Medea Creek school advances to state math championship

The Medea Creek Middle School Math Counts team recently participated in the local chapter competition in Ventura against schools from Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties.

The Medea Creek team featured Carl Chen, Michael Fienberg, Alex Nisnevich, Neil Shah, Will Connor, Michael Mindlin, Sol Mindlin and Mateen Saffarian. The faculty coach was Brian Winsick.

Out of more than 100 sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-graders competing in the individual competition, Chen and Shah placed in the top 15; Alex Nisnevich placed first overall in the individual competition.

They brought home the trophy for second place in the overall competition and secured a spot in the state championships.

Medea Creek’s team will attend the state championship on March 13 at UC-Irvine where they will compete againt all middle schools in Southern California.
