Padgett hopes to stop wasteful city spending

Padgett hopes to stop wasteful city spending

Having lived in Calabasas for 14 years, I’m glad to be able to serve our city.

I have been elected twice to the board of directors of the Las Virgenes Water District. There, I was able to cut the cost of water by 10 percent and to block a planned increase in sewer charges.

I am running for city council because I see the same kind of waste in Calabasas that I saw at the water district.

Until recently the city commissioners were required to report wasteful spending to the city council, i.e. be "watchdogs" for waste.

At the Nov. 3 council meeting the councilmembers didn’t want commissioners to continue reporting wasteful spending and ordered them to stop reporting it. Evidently, the council wants to hide what is going on.

If elected, I will make sure that any unnecessary spending be quickly stopped.

The money to be saved in this way is not now known, but would be considerable. The savings can be used for the public good in any number of ways but, I believe, most attractive to taxpayers will be to reduce property taxes.

As a candidate for Calabasas City Council I ask for your support and your vote on March 8.

Vernon M. Padgett

Candidate, Calabasas

City Council
