Maurer: Breath of fresh air

Maurer: Breath of fresh air

What a breath of fresh air is Mary Sue Maurer’s candidacy for Calabasas City Council. As a long time resident, I for one am sick of the infighting and lack of respect displayed by our current city council. Clearly, certain members of the council do not ascribe to the theory that "character counts"—but it does. Constant and acrimonious political bickering merely fosters an unnecessarily challenging atmosphere in which the business of the city must be transacted.

While most political candidates espouse all the popular themes—managed growth, education and fiscal responsibility—Mary Sue’s ideas are actually well-conceived and achievable. In addition to promoting civility and character as a better way to effectuate our city goals, Calabasas stands to greatly benefit by developing a sound environment for local business. She can also utilize her experience with the school district to maintain the unique partnership between the city and the school district, which has helped provide an excellent education for our children.

Our city would be well served by the addition of a conscientious, caring individual such as Mary Sue.
