CERT classes to begin A Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training program is set to begin Tues., March 8 and will run seven weeks. The course is from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in the community room at Agoura Hills City Hall. Members of the team will be trained in first aid, disaster preparedness, fire suppression, medical intervention, light search and rescue, and disaster psychology and preparation. Trained volunteers will learn how to conduct disaster emergency assessments during earthquakes, fires and other disasters. Terrorism will also be covered, and members will learn to identify different types of terrorist weapons and analyze risks and threats. Maria Grycan, a member of the Los Angeles County Fire Department, will conduct the training sessions. She said that if the current session is not convenient, the fire department is very flexible in arranging classes. Classes can be arranged for groups of 20 during the week or on Saturdays. "If a group wants it, we’re going to do everything we can to make it happen," Grycan said. For more information about the classes, contact Carol Tubelis at 597-7316. —Stephanie Bertholdo |
