Education for entry-level home buyers
Course gives tips on getting the best deal
The Area Housing Authority of the County of Ventura, a housing provider for low- to moderate-income families in Ventura County, along with Irwin Mortgage Corp. and Coldwell Banker, will jointly sponsor the "School of Home Buying Course" from 10 a.m. to noon Sat., March 5 at the Area Housing Authority offices, 1400 W. Hillcrest Drive, Newbury Park. The course is designed to provide entry-level home buyers with a step-by-step guideline for buying a home. By completing the course, first-time home buyers may qualify for special loan programs such as the city of Thousand Oaks Ownership Assistance Program. Other programs that will be discussed during the class are the Ventura County Regional Mortgage Credit Certificate and California Housing Finance Agency loan, which offers Ventura County residents up to $49,000 to help defray the cost of a down payment or closing costs. Subjects to be covered include financing programs designed to help low- to moderate-income home buyers as well as determining what price to offer for a home, home inspections and appraisals, credit profiles and how to choose the right lender.
