YMCA plans to add pilot league for youth basketball

Beginning in April, the Triunfo YMCA will become the newest Jr. Lakers youth basketball partner in the Los Angeles area serving Agoura Hills, Oak Park and Westlake Village.

The Triunfo YMCA is planning on offering a pilot league for 6 through 14 year olds. The Y’s program will emphasize fun, fair play and fundamentals where every child makes the team and everyone plays half the game. No win-loss records or even scores will be kept in younger divisions. Every player will receive supportive coaching, trophies and, of course, Jr. Lakers uniforms.

Games are on weekends in April and May; the season wraps up before June. A coaches clinic will be the weekend of March 19 and 20. There will be six weeks of games, two weeks of double elimination tournament and a celebration day the last weekend.

Sign-ups are tentatively scheduled for either Sat. March 12 at the Agoura High School gym or Sun. March 13 at Oaks Christian School gym from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Skills assessments will be taken at that time.
