Fire destroys mobile home

No injuries

No injuries— cause not known

A Calabasas mother and her teenage son lost their mobile home in a fire last week.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department was dispatched Feb. 16 to the Calabasas Mobile Home Park on Mulholland Highway at about 2:20 p.m. But they didn’t arrive in time to save the structure, which was engulfed in flames.

The fire started in the living room and spread throughout the home, fire officials said.

No one was injured in the blaze, which occurred while owner Jill Jones was at work and her 15-year-old son, Jeff, was attending Calabasas High School.

Ty Edwards, a neighbor, saw the smoke from his living room and said he was among the first on the scene.

Another neighbor had told him there was a dog in the home, so Edwards said he tried to open the windows to help the animal escape. He later learned the dog was already outside.

Edwards said he tried to control the blaze before firefighters arrived, but that the flames were too intense.

According to neighbors, Jones and her son lost everything in the fire. Inquiries about donations to help the family can be made by calling Matt Kelly, the mobile home park manager, at 222-8500.

The fire department is still investigating the cause of the fire.
