Harrison,
Devine out Harrison, Devine out Calabasas is a great community and a wonderful place to live and raise our families. Our residents deserve an efficient and responsive city government. For progress to continue and to preserve what we have, we must all participate in electing those who will represent us on the day-to-day issues that we care about. That is why we strongly believe that Lesley Devine and Michael Harrison should not be reelected to the Calabasas City Council. We derive no pleasure in taking this position, but necessary change is not easy and good government requires hard work. We believe that the coalition of community leaders who are signatories below strongly suggests that change must occur. While we have not always agreed on all issues or candidates in the past, we agree on this. Rather than provide positive and cooperative leadership for our city, both Harrison and Devine have made repeated outbursts against residents and city staff. They have acted as obstructionists on major city issues. Their actions have cost the city millions of dollars in needless rents, lost equity and increased cost on the Civic Center/Library project and in lost tax revenues from delaying projects that have already been approved. The lack of civility and abusive behavior shown by Devine and Harrison to fellow council members, staff and volunteers has created a crisis of morale at city hall. Their actions are an embarrassment to the city. Outstanding professional staff people have left as a result. Not a single past or present city council member or mayor has endorsed their candidacies for reelection. Harrison and Devine have lost touch with the purpose and goals of our city. They are no longer representative of the cooperative spirit of our community. We urge you, the voters, to carefully consider other fine choices on the ballot. We urge you to vote for candidates who will bring mature behavior, experience and professionalism to city hall. We deserve council members who will be responsive to all the residents of Calabasas and who will vigorously debate the issues, but who will treat each other, city staff and their constituents with civility and respect. Please join us in not voting to reelect Lesley Devine and Michael Harrison to the Calabasas City Council and allowing refreshing change we can be proud of on March 8.
