Vampire bunny musical coming "Bunnicula," a musical based on the hilarious and inventive children’s novel by James and Deborah Howe, will be presented at 10 a.m. and noon Wed., Feb. 23 in the Fred Kavli Theatre at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, 2100 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd. "Bunnicula" is a live musical adventure depicting the quiet home life of the Monroe family pets until a new arrival throws Harold the dog and Chester the cat for a loop. The mysterious bunny found during a Dracula movie is forebodingly named Bunnicula and brought home by the Monroe children. Harold the dog and Chester the cat have a sneaking suspicion that the new pet is really a vampire bunny. Their misadventures lead them to discover the truth behind Bunnicula’s strange habits. Harold and Chester try to warn the Monroe family of the vegetable-sucking rabbit, but instead wind up in hilarious predicaments. The ensuing chaos only lands the two friends "in the doghouse" as their owners reprimand the pets’ behavior towards their new housemate. The "Bunnicula" children’s book series has won numerous awards for children’s literature, including the Iowa Children’s Choice Award and the Nebraska Golden Sower Award. The musical stage version, adapted by Jon Klein and performed by the Omaha Theater Company for Young People is touring "Bunnicula" nationally to reach more than 250,000 children across the U.S. Tickets are $8 per person for groups of 10 or more and $10 for individuals. Tickets may be purchased by phone at (805) 646-8907. This production is recommended for ages 5 and older. |
