The CLU Community Leaders Association has allocated more than $70,000 for academic programs at California Lutheran University.

Granted to 14 academic departments at the university with allocations ranging from less than $500 up to $12,000, the funds were netted from the 2004 auction that took place last October in the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.

Academic departments receiving funding include Bioengineering, $12,000 for equipment; Music, $12,000 for restoration of a Steinway grand piano; Biology, $6,490 for a vibratome; Chemistry, $12,400 for lab equipment; Information Systems and Services, $8,500 for a computer projection system; Mathematics, $6,100 for laptops and a projection system.

Other departments receiving grants include Art, French, Multimedia, Theatre Arts and the School of Education. About $6,000 has been designated for endowed scholarships for incoming and current CLU students.

Founded in 1963, the Community Leaders Association was developed to stimulate the interest of the community in CLU athletic and cultural programs. Members are involved in a variety of activities, including social and academic programs and fundraising efforts.
