Kids’ program includes Jewish tree-planting ceremony

Skirball Cultural Center will host "Tu Bishvat: A Birthday Celebration" from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sun., Jan. 23 at its facilities at 2701 N. Sepulveda Blvd., Los Angeles.

Geared for children ages 4 and older (with an adult), the program invites participants to "hug a tree and come ready to put your hands in the soil."

In celebration of Tu Bishvat, the Jewish holiday honoring trees, environmental educator Hylah Egeland will offer a hands-on, creative and playful exploration of trees and their importance to people, animals and other plants.

Participants will gain an understanding of how to promote a healthy and vital global tree population.

Cost is $9 per child or $6 for Skirball members. Reservations are recommended and may be made by calling (310) 440-4636.
