Catholic Relief Services pledge aid to tsunami disaster victims

Cardinal Roger Mahony led prayers for victims and survivors of the recent tsunami in South Asia at a special Mass on Sun., Jan. 2 in the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in downtown Los Angeles.

A special collection was taken during the Mass, with all proceeds going directly to Catholic Relief Services.

Catholic Relief Services has committed $25 million in emergency funding for immediate and long-term efforts to help save lives and assist communities in rebuilding infrastructure in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India and Thailand.

Previously, Mahony had urged each of the Archdiocese’s 287 parishes to take up special collections on behalf of Catholic Relief Services.
