Anti-Defamation workshop explores Holocaust A four-part series titled "The Relevance of Teaching the Holocaust in the 21st Century" will be presented from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursdays, Jan. 27, Feb. 3, 10 and 17 at the Anti-Defamation League’s (ADL) office, 10495 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles and also at the Museum of Tolerance and the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust. This is the 22nd annual teacher-training workshop presented by the ADL and commemorates the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz and the end of Nazi tyranny. This workshop presents an opportunity to learn from distinguished scholars, educators, arts and technology specialists and survivors’ eyewitness accounts. While it is designed for middle and high school levels, elementary school teachers will also gain insights and benefits. The four workshops are divided into the following general topics: From Forced Emigration to Mass Extermination; The Final Solution: How the Decision was Implemented and By Whom; Resistance, Rescue and Liberation; and Translation into the Classroom and Contemporary Challenges. Registration fee before Thurs., Jan. 13 is $60; $70 after that date. The fee includes a kosher dinner each session, all learning materials and handouts, plus $20 worth of books or videos for classroom use. Educators completing the workshop are entitled to salary points from the Los Angeles Unified School District, in-service credit from the Bureau of Jewish Education and may receive University Extension units from California State University. Advance registration is required. For further information, call Jackie Louk at (310) 446-8000, ext. 232 or e-mail jlouk@adl.org. |
