Neighbors should be tolerant of loud music at teen parties Neighbors should be tolerant of loud music at teen parties In a recent addition of The Acorn, two separate articles addressed the concerns of drug abuse and our teens and concern over lack of police presence in Oak Park and the problems associated with that. So, I ask you, if you want to keep the kids of Oak Park off the streets and away from drugs, where do we want our children to be on a Saturday night in order to have fun and be supervised? I for one want them in my home with their friends having good clean fun. However, because of several neighbors’ lack of tolerance, this is becoming a problem. We have opened our home to the students of Oak Park and Agoura high schools occasionally, and someone always has to complain about the noise. Having teenagers is not easy, as we all know, and for those who are not at that stage yet, you soon will be. If we all exert a little tolerance for the noise on a Saturday night, our community will be better for it, I promise. They do get quite loud, so close your windows, turn on a fan and relax. It will all be over in a couple of hours. Everyone can overlook a dog barking or a lawnmower early in the morning––why not a little loud music? Just for the record, they play show tunes, not Metallica or rap. Do you not remember what it was like to be 16? If these kids work hard and put on a school production, participate in a school competition or have a birthday, are they not entitled to a party? Teenagers are our future, and they need to have a place to go—so be a good neighbor and put your earplugs in on an occasional Saturday night. Leigh Ann Dehmohseni Oak Park |
