New signs to greet motorists in Westlake Village

Westlake Village city council members decided to sail into the future, approving at last week’s meeting a new design for the city’s monument signs, which will greet residents and visitors as they enter the city along busy thoroughfares.

The face of the new entry monuments will be adorned with ledger stone (used throughout the city) in keeping with the themes for an updated city design. The same stone is found at new bus stops.

The new monuments will replace the seal for the city of Westlake Village with a sailboat.

The words "Welcome" and "City of Westlake Village" will be finished in cut aluminum, color-coated in brown/black. The welcome will be offset by the sailboat cast in oiled bronze. The tip of the sailboat’s sails will rise about 4 inches above the top.

The sailboat was designed by Daniel Gluck, a bronze casting artist from Marina del Rey. Gluck has been working on the design for several months through the direction of the city’s environmental committee.
